Notes

C529 Vagina, NOS **Note 1:** This schema is based on the UICC chapter *Vagina,* pages 202-205 * The classification applies to primary carcinomas only. Tumor present in the vagina as secondary growths from either genital or extragenital sites are excluded. A tumor that has extended to the portio and reached the external os (orifice of uterus) is classified as carcinoma of the cervix. A vaginal carcinoma occurring 5 years are successful treatment (complete response) of a carcinoma of the cervix uteri is classified as a primary vaginal carcinoma. A tumor involving the vulva is classified as carcinoma of the vulva **Note 2:** The FIGO stages are based on surgical staging. (TNM stages are based on clinical and/or pathologic classification). **Note 3:** TNM values correspond to the stages accepted by the Federation Internationale de Gynecologic et d'Obstetrique (FIGO). Note that FIGO uses a single stage value which corresponds to different groupings of T, N, and M values. **Note 4:** In addition to directly assigning TNM, Summary Stage 2000 (SS2000) must be captured. If directly assigning SS2000, use the *Vagina* chapter on page 202 of the [SS2000 on-line manual](https://seer.cancer.gov/tools/ssm/ssm2000/SSSM2000-122012.pdf#page=202).
