Notes

C589 Placenta **Note 1:** This schema is based on the UICC chapter *Gestational Trophoblastic Tumours,* pages 232-236. **Note 2:** This classification applies to choriocarcinoma (9100/3). Placental site tumors should be reported separately. Histologic confirmation is not required if the human chorionic gonadotropin (BhCG) level is abnormally elevated. **Note 3:** If a trophoblastic tumor is not associated with a pregnancy and arises in another site, such as ovary, use the primary site code and the appropriate TNM chapter. **Note 4:** In addition to directly assigning TNM, Summary Stage 2000 (SS2000) must be captured. If directly assigning SS2000, use the *Placenta* chapter on page 222 of the [SS2000 on-line manual](http://seer.cancer.gov/tools/ssm/SSSM2000-122012.pdf#page=222).
