Notes
**Note 1:** Assign 88 for in situ cases (behavior code /2). TNM does not include an in situ category for GIST small intestine tumors. **Note 2:** Give priority to coding depth of invasion or spread outside the small intestine for tumor with intraluminal or lateral extension to adjacent segment(s) of small intestine. **Note 3:** Tumor size must be known to assign T. You may use a physician’s statement of the T category if this is the only information in the medical record. * If no size or category is specified, assign TX **Note 4:** Assign the appropriate T category based on the tumor size for the following descriptions Invasion of polyp, NOS Tumor confined to muscular wall Tumor invades through submucosa and muscularis mucosae to involve mucosa Intraluminal spread to other segments of small intestine or cecum Invasion through muscularis propria or muscularis, NOS Extension through wall, NOS Subserosal tissue/(sub) serosal fat invaded Transmural, NOS Adjacent connective tissue Mesentery, including mesenteric fat Nonperitonealized perimuscular tissue Retroperitoneum Invasion of/through serosa (mesothelium) (tunica serosa) (visceral peritoneum) **Duodenum primaries (C170)** Ampulla of Vater Blood vessel(s), major Aorta Gastroduodenal artery Greater omentum Portal vein Renal vein Superior mesenteric artery or vein Vena cava Diaphragm Extrahepatic bile duct(s) Gallbladder Hepatic flexure Kidney (right or NOS) Liver (quadrate lobe, right lobe or NOS) Omentum Pancreas Pancreatic duct Stomach Transverse colon Ureter, right **Jejunum (C171) or Ileum (C172)** Bladder Colon, including appendix Fallopian tube(s) Ovary(ies) Uterus Confined to small intestine Localized, NOSNAACCR Item
