**Note 1:** Physician statement of mediastinal and scalene nodal status can be used to code this data item when no other information is available. **Note 2:** Assign the highest applicable code (1-3) in the case of positive nodes. **Note 3:** If a nodal station is in the area being imaged, biopsied, or in the surgical field and there is no mention of involvement, then assume that specific nodal station is negative. **Note 4:** Code 9 is used when there is no relevant nodal information from diagnostic work up, biopsy or surgical resection documented. **Note 5:** The assessment method is recorded in Lymph Nodes Distant Assessment Method [NAACCR Data Item #3874].Default
